Dear friends in love with champagne and amateur of sabrage,

For the record, the Confrerie du Sabre d'Or was introduced in Mauritius in 1996, so 27 years already, we are among the oldest and one of the first outside Europe.

I take this opportunity to say a big bravo and a big thank you to the Grand Master Jean Claude Jalloux and all those who helped us to set up this prestigious brotherhood in Mauritius.

Let me share with you some figures, we have 120 hotels in Mauritius, I exclude villas, apartments and restaurants in this figure.

We have opened 20 "caveaux" in Mauritius, which means that 20% of the hotels are already practicing the sabrage, this percentage is much more than the number of hotels recognized by La Confrérie in France.

We have for 12 years set up a committee for La Confrerie du sabre d'Or in Mauritius we are 12 active members in this committee who I thank them for their dedication.

Over the years, in our small island, we have inducted 1 Grand Commander, 6 "Commander", 12 "Officiers", 130 "Chevaliers" and 13 000 "Sabreurs".

Some more figures - 13,000 "sabreurs" with a small population of 1.3 million people which makes 1% of Mauritians are sabreurs.

In Mauritius, thanks to La Confrerie, all our caveaux have a sabreur for newlyweds and it has become a custom in our hotels.

Please note that we have recently opened a cellar in Madagascar and in the Reunion Island.
